Flames of Madness
The Dalelands were once a group of loosely allied communities that shared common cultures and traditions. Great heroes were born from these humble lands, even as they struggled against Sembia, aided by Cormyr and Myth Drannor.
Few places have suffered as much as the Dalelands. When Cormyr was overrun with the Spellplague, it bled over into the Dalelands, killing dozens immediately. Survivors of Cormyr fled into the Dalelands, many of them resorting to banditry. The Dalelands were unable to support refugees, and many villages and even towns collapsed under the weight of their numbers. Spellplagued creatures poured in, adding to the madness. Towns that did not fall immediately sealed up their walls and became xenophobic. Sembia invaded, taking whatever lands were still available, and turned the Dalelands into a front against the Spellplague. The Elminster, whom lives in Shadowdale, has not been heard from since the Spellplague hit.
People who fled the transformed Dalelands, and Sembians living on its outskirts, report strange nightmares about a great beast of blue fire and void. Some suspect that it has something to do with a rumored Cyricist holy site.
